Can I belly dance while injured or pregnant?

Short answer: probably.

Belly dance is low-impact and easy on your joints, so it’s safe for most students to do during an uncomplicated pregnancy, or (with care) during a mild injury.

While I will make every effort to teach you to dance safely, I am not a doctor or a fitness professional. You are responsible for your own safety at all times, and participate at your own risk.

If you are pregnant or injured, you must:
1) tell me (I’ll keep it confidential)
2) check with your doctor to make sure belly dance is appropriate for your condition
3) be mindful of your limits
4) let me know if anything hurts or feels odd in class

I had three serious injuries in the space of two years, and I know how tempting it is to just push through, but trust me: it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I especially urge you to check with your doctor if you have:
– a complicated pregnancy
– serious knee problems
– lower back issues
– an abdominal injury (been there!)
– a hip injury (done that!)
– foot issues (bought the tee shirt!)

Feel free to show your doctor this video of a class I gave on TV. It’s a pretty good example of the kinds of things you’ll be doing in class.
